Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones looks increasingly likely to leave this month after missing the double header against Como. The Reds played a 70-minute behind-closed-doors friendly against the Italians at midday on Sunday before a full-length match against the same opponents at a sold-out Anfield in the evening. First-half goals from Cody Gakpo and Jeremy Jacquet helped Liverpool to a 2-0 win in their final pre-season tune-up. But academy graduate Jones was absent, as he was for the first match at the AXA Training Centre. He also missed out on the defeat to Monaco at Anfield last weekend with an apparent hip injury. Despite returning to training on Wednesday, it is understood Jones underwent an individual recovery session back at the Kirkby HQ instead of playing against Como. Yet it appears more and more likely that the 25-year-old will leave before the September 1 transfer deadline. Jones is out of contract in June 2027 and has been lined up to join Como's Serie A rivals Inter Milan. Fabrizio Romano reports that Inter are expected to make a new bid for the Englishman and that the player wants the move. The Nerazzurri had bids of around £17million and £22million rejected for Jones in June. Although the six-cap England international is into the final 12 months of his deal, Liverpool are thought to value the player at £35m. Their valuation is informed by the fee that took Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid to Tottenham in January. Inter sporting director, Piero Ausilio, said earlier this summer: "Curtis Jones - we are paying attention to him. We didn't hide. We understand what the developments will be." While Federico Chiesa admitted to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport that Jones had asked him what life is like in Italy. Jones has been at Liverpool since the age of nine and is a boyhood supporter of the club. Asked about his future last month, Reds boss Andoni Iraola made it clear he would prefer him to stay. Jones, who made his Liverpool debut back in January 2019, was at the centre of a heated row in pre-season with team-mates Dominik Szoboszlai and Kostas Tsimikas after a win over Wrexham in the United States. Tsimikas was handed the captain's armband instead of Jones when Szoboszlai went off, which left the local man irate. Szoboszlai later clarified: "We just discussed something on the pitch. Actually, you guys (the media) make it very big. But next time we will manage to do it in the changing room. No, nobody was angry at no-one. It's all cleared. We are cool, everybody." Only 16 days remain until the window is closed and incoming and outgoing business is set to ramp up on Merseyside. Iraola could yet sign Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye both from Paris Saint-Germain. The pair were left out of the match-day squad to face Lens in the Trophee des Champions (the French Super Cup) on Sunday night.
