Kim Min-Jae Emerges as a Manchester United Target
Manchester United continue to explore the market for opportunities to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes, and center-back remains one of the positions that could receive another addition. One name back on the radar is Kim Min-Jae, currently with Bayern Munich.
According to Bild, the English club remain interested in the South Korean international. This is not the first time he has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but his current situation in Germany could once again open the door to a possible deal.
Kim is under contract with Bayern until 2028 and continues to receive playing time. However, he is not an undisputed starter under Vincent Kompany, who also has center-backs such as Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah at his disposal.
For now, the defender’s preference would be to remain in Munich, meaning any potential move would depend both on the player’s position and Bayern’s willingness to negotiate.
An Interesting Option for Carrick
For Michael Carrick, adding another center-back could provide greater stability in a position that still carries some uncertainty.
Matthijs de Ligt is returning from a lengthy injury and needs time to regain his competitive rhythm. Having an alternative like Kim would allow the manager to better manage his minutes while also increasing competition within the defense.
The South Korean could also form a partnership with Lisandro Martínez or Harry Maguire, depending on the opponent and the system Carrick decides to use.
Kim stands out for his physical strength, recovery speed in open spaces and aggressive approach when stepping forward to anticipate attackers. He also has experience playing in a high defensive line, something that could be important for a United side looking to play more aggressively and win the ball back further up the pitch.
Bayern Have the Final Say
The potential deal, however, does not appear straightforward.
At 29, Kim Min-Jae still has two years remaining on his contract with Bayern Munich, and the German club are under no immediate pressure to sell him. Even if he is not always the first choice at center-back, he remains an important option over the course of a long season.
For Manchester United, everything will depend on the conditions of a potential negotiation.
Carrick has already made it clear that he still wants to improve his squad, and adding a center-back with experience in Serie A, the Bundesliga and the Champions League could provide an immediate solution.
For now, Kim Min-Jae remains a Bayern player.
But if the German club open the door to a departure, Manchester United could find a very interesting opportunity to strengthen their defense before the transfer window closes.
