Old Firm to meet in quarter final cup clash as Rangers get first win of the season It will be the first Old Firm cup clash since a match at Ibrox in March which ended in chaos. The first Old Firm derby of the season is coming a week earlier than expected after Rangers were drawn to face Celtic in the quarter finals of the Premier Sports Cup. Rangers will host Celtic in a blockbuster Premier Sports Cup quarter final after Derek McInnes kick-started his reign at Ibrox. The new Gers boss picked up his first win in the job, with his team thumping cup holders St Mirren 5-1 at Ibrox, the Daily Record reports. And the new gaffer said the Celtic clash to be held on the weekend of September 12/13 would be ‘mouthwatering’ - although it is likely to raise concerns after a Scottish Cup tie last season ended with clashes between supporters on the pitch. Police Scotland have since made more than 40 arrests relating to the incidents at the end of the Scottish Cup quarter final in March. Ibrox descended into chaos after the match when fans invaded the pitch, leading to several police officers and supporters being injured. Speaking to Premier Sports, the Rangers boss said: “Yeah, I think obviously when our name came out first, the home tie, but it's a mouthwatering tie right away. “Normally that's the tie the sponsors would want maybe further on in the competition, but now we've got it here, it's a good opportunity for us.It'll be tough, as you'd expect, but we'll look forward to it when it comes round.” Celtic booked their place in the last eight with a 5-1 victory over Dundee United on Saturday. The draw means Glasgow's big two will now face each other in back-to-back weeks, with their first league clash of the season taking place at Parkhead on September 20.
