The Washington Commanders hosted the Miami Dolphins on Friday night and had off yesterday. They held a walkthrough today that was closed to the media, but head coach Dan Quinn spoke to them after. He confirmed that QB Marcus Mariota suffered a sprained MCL and will be out for the rest of the preseason. He’s optimistic Mariota will be back for the regular season. Quinn said the injury won’t change their plans for starters playing vs the Lions this week. Backups Sam Hartman and Athan Kaliakmanis will be getting extended looks over the next two games. There have been too many penalties, both in training camp practices, and on Friday night. There were pre-snap penalties and illegal formation calls that need to get cleaned up before the regular season. Quinn was also asked about the NIL/jersey dispute between Jayden Daniels and LSU. He said he hasn’t paid much attention to it, and he’s focused on getting Daniels and the team ready for the regular season. Daniels has had a great camp, been a leader, and he likes the connection he’s already formed with newly-signed WR Stefon Diggs.
