Kante used his physicality on the right flank to outmuscle Edwards, who couldn't get near the combative Frenchman, and he managed to pick out Solomon in the box whose thunderous strike into the roof of the net couldn't be thwarted by Max Weiss. The former Tottenham Hotspur wideman became the first Hammers player to score on his competitive debut since Manuel Lanzini in 2015 which could prove to be a good omen for his West Ham career. Thrilling end to proceedings However, the contest was far from over and the hosts were given a lifeline seven minutes from time. Scarles' clumsy challenge on the ever-lively Edwards just inside the box forced referee Joshua Smith to point to the spot and Flemming came to the fore to send Hermansen the wrong way. They subsequently threw bodies forward to restore parity with the first substitutions, Amdouni and Laurent, both trying their luck from distance before Flemming delivered the goods two minutes into additional time.
