Leeds United Women bagged an opening day 7-0 win over Thornaby Women on Sunday, a great way to kickstart their 2026/27 FA WNL Division One North campaign. Four different scorers, and two own goals, aided the Whites to their first win of the season, a result captain Shauna Legge was satisfied with. "Really happy with that one," the skipper said. "It's everything sort of what we've prepared for through preseason, for the game plan that we had worked on. "It's nice to score seven goals. We couldn't have wished for much more on opening day, and a clean sheet as well to top it off, so really happy. Everyone in the dressing room is buzzing as well. "It's everything that we've worked for, and bits that we've worked around in training coming out on the pitch is exactly what you want to see. I'm sure the staff and the fans could see that as well." Speaking on achieving her first clean sheet of the season, Legge added: "For me, as a defender, that's what you want to be doing. I spoke about it before that we want to get more clean sheets, or to kick it off like that. Buzzing with that and it will feel more helpful down the line." On next week's clash away at Chester-le-Street Town Ladies: "A tough test. Obviously, they're still in this league from last year. I know that they've added strength on their side and added did some quality, but like I've said before, so have we. "So we'll do our preparation, like we usually do, and hopefully have another solid result like today to build on it."
