William Osula gave Newcastle United the lead against the Ligue 1 side but Gessime Yassine's second-half equaliser forced a penalty shoot-out to decide which of the two teams would lift the VisitMalta Weekender trophy. And that proved to be the French outfit - despite Ewen Jaouen saving spot-kicks from Giovanni Reyna and Mateo Del Blanco. United were punished when they failed to clear their lines and Yassine rifles past Jaouen - then the same player hit the woodwork late on to ensure that the game went to penalties. And the Magpies missed three times from the spot, allowing Strasbourg to lift the trophy.
