The winger was involved in all of the positive actions and St Mirren struggled to deal with his speed. For the opening goal, his refusal to give up on winning the ball proved to be crucial as Ryan Naderi got onto the end of his header inside the box. Then, he would strike the bar with an emphatic effort in the first-half with his performance deserving of a goal. He would finally get that much deserved strike, when in the second half he raced through on goal to lift the nerves at Ibrox and restore a two-goal lead. While much has been said about the need for the Gers' to add to their wide options, Gassama showcased today he can be a danger man in those areas. Emmanuel Fernandez far from his best at Ibrox Emmanuel Fernandez was a colossus last season but against St Mirren, he produced what can only be described as a lazy showing. The Nigerian defender looked often bet by the Buddies front-line with Olwethu Makhanya the clear standout between the two. In the first half, he gave away an easy free-kick which resulted in a yellow card. And then in the second-half conceded a penalty which he really should have done better with. Instead, it was a clumsy and lazy effort at preventing a goal. Luckily, Ivor Pandur spared his blushes by saving Killian Phillips' retaken penalty at Ibrox.
