Injury Updates August 2026
Working alongside Harris Fowler, The Personal Injury and Medical Negligence Specialists, we will be bringing our Members and supporters regular injury updates during the season.
This month we caught up with Somerset Men Head Coach, Jason Kerr and Somerset Women Head Coach, Erin Oborne to discuss how each player is recovering.
Alfie Ogborne – Lower Back Stress Fracture
“First and foremost, it’s obviously incredibly frustrating for Alfie. He put in a huge amount of work through the winter to get ready for this summer. He’s obviously made strides forward and certainly had an impact with the ball in the games that he has played. We were obviously looking for him to contribute towards the back end of the season but unfortunately, he’s found himself in a position where I guess his season’s over. He’s already started working hard to make sure that one, he’s ready to develop through the winter, but more importantly, be ready for next summer.”
Thomas Rew – Ankle Ligaments
“Again, it’s incredibly frustrating. He’s obviously had an outstanding summer and incurred the injury colliding with an advertising board. There is ligament damage, but surgery isn’t required. He’s already working incredibly hard and there may be a chance that he’s back before the end of the year, but I think it’s unlikely. It’s important that we rehab him as thoroughly as we can and put no pressures on from a time frame point of view.”
Tom Banton – Thigh
“Bants has re-aggravated the thigh injury that he picked up at Finals Day. He’s already being incredibly diligent with his rehab and doing everything he can with one eye on the International Series at the back end of this month. He’ll be working incredibly hard to try and make himself available for the White Ball cricket coming up in September.”
Fin Hill – Hamstring
“Fin is progressing well following the significant surgery that he underwent. The original prognosis was that he’ll be out for the rest of the year. We’ve seen incredible diligence from him. He’s spending eight until five at the ground in various guises and capacities, doing everything he can. We’re not going to put any pressure on Finn to be available for any cricket this summer. He’s looking at a winter abroad, so it’s important that he checks off all the markers that the medical team outline for him to undertake.”
Erin Vukusic – Lower Back Stress Response
“It’s frustrating for Erin but it’s something that we have been managing for a while now. She’s done really well to get through the Vitality Blast and it’s obviously disappointing that she won’t be able to feature in the remainder of the Metro Bank One Day Cup. She’s been really professional and understands that injury is a part of the game. She’s already rehabbing really well.”
Emma Corney – ACL
“It’s super pleasing for Emma that she’s back out on the park. She’s had a tough 18 months. There’s been a few ups and a lot of downs if we’re absolutely honest, but she’s done exceptionally well, and to see her in the runs against a Hampshire XI a couple of days ago scoring 100 it was so nice to see. It’s just reward for all the hard work that she has done.”
At Harris Fowler, we understand the importance of early specialist rehabilitation for injured people, to maximise the prospects of the quickest and best possible recovery. In the same way that the specialist rehabilitation team at Somerset Cricket Club, seeks to get their injured cricketers back to full fitness , and available for selection as quickly as possible, at Harris Fowler we meet the needs of injured people by providing access to rehabilitation services for our clients at an early stage , so that they can hopefully return to work as quickly as possible, improve their quality of life, and regain their independence.
Rehabilitation can take many forms. It can involve medical treatment for physical and psychological injuries such as specialist physiotherapy, and therapy. It can also involve services such as the provision of orthotics ( medical aids such as splints ) , prosthetics ( artificial limbs) , a professional care plan, and adaptions to the home. In serious injury cases, a professional case manager may need to be appointed to co-ordinate, implement, and monitor the options and rehabilitation services available to meet the seriously injured persons` needs.
Once rehabilitation has taken place , then compensation can be agreed or awarded for, the physical and psychological injury, taking into account a number of factors including the extent of the recovery and the prognosis, and any consequential losses the injured person has incurred or will incur in the future, such as loss of earnings , private medical treatment, and the provision of care. The aim of compensation is to put the injured person back, as far as possible, to the position they would have been but for the injury.
At Harris Fowler we act for injured people who have been involved in many different types of accident , the most common being accidents at work, road traffic accidents , and medical negligence. We act on a “ No Win No Fee “ basis so injured people can seek access to rehabilitation services and compensation with, no risk or upfront cost to them.
