Former Celtic captain Scott Brown has emerged as a candidate for the vacant Derry City manager’s job. The Irish Mirror reports that the League of Ireland club have expressed an interest in Brown as they begin the search for a permanent successor to Tiernan Lynch. Brown took his first managerial role at Fleetwood Town in 2022 after beginning his coaching career as a player-coach at Aberdeen. He later moved to Ayr United, where he spent more than two seasons before departing earlier this year. Derry are now looking for a new manager after ending Lynch’s spell in charge following a disappointing campaign. The club have struggled for consistency in the League of Ireland Premier Division and recently exited European competition, leading to a change in the dugout. Former defender Mark Connolly has been placed in interim charge while the search for a new head coach continues. Brown remains one of the most decorated players in Celtic’s history after spending 14 years at Parkhead. The former Scotland international made more than 600 appearances for the Hoops, captaining the club through one of the most successful periods in its history. Since moving into coaching, the former midfielder has been working to establish himself as a manager, and the Derry vacancy could offer him a route back into football. There has been no indication that an appointment is close, but the report suggests Brown is among the names being considered as Derry weigh up their next move.
