Telstar 1-3 Sparta Rotterdam
Sparta Rotterdam got their first three points of the campaign with a simple win at Telstar.
After a scramble in the Telstar box, Marvin Young fired Sparta ahead from close range in the sixth minute. Sparta then doubled their lead early in the second half through Nokkvi Thorisson.
Abdelnour Soualhia thought he had set up a thrilling finish when he made it 2-1 in the 90th minute but Robin van Cruijsen restored Sparta’s two goal lead late on.
Sparta moves onto three points, the same as Telstar.
Willem II 1-4 NEC Nijmegen
After their excellent win in the Champions League, NEC saw off Willem II 4-1 in Tilburg.
The hosts shaded the early exchanges but before the break, Adam Tahaui headed NEC Nijmegen in front. Tjarron Chery then slotted in from close range to double the lead early in the second half.
Bryan Linssen made it 3-0 with a strike into the top corner before Kaj Sierhuis scored an excellent fourth goal as he hooked the ball in with an acrobatic finish.
Thomas Verheydt pulled one back but it was too little too late for the home side.
FC Utrecht 1-4 AZ Alkmaar
AZ Alkmaar’s strong start to the season continued with a comfortable win over Utrecht.
The first half was an even affair until stoppage time when Peer Koopmeiners found the net from a difficult angle. Two minutes into the second half, Kees Smit set up Wesley Patati to net a second.
AZ were flying and Mexx Meerdink got the third with a close range finish before Artm Stepanov headed one back for Utrecht.
With six minutes left, Ayoub Oufkir found the bottom corner to make it 4-1 at the end and AZ are currently top of the table.
Excelsior 1-2 PSV Eindhoven
PSV held on for a slender victory in Rotterdam on Saturday evening.
After only five minutes, Ruben van Bommel opened the scoring and it seemed the visitors were going to ease to victory. However, Excelsior rallied and in the second half, Casper Widell headed the hosts level.
PSV quickly restored their lead with Sergino Dest crossing for Ricardo Pepi to net from close range. That proved to be the winning goal as PSV held on for three points.
Fortuna Sittard 3-1 Cambuur
After two early goals, Fortuna Sittard saw off Cambuur in Limburg.
In the sixth minute, Philip Brittijn headed in the opening goal before Lequincio Zeefuik doubled the lead following a fast break.
Rafik el Arguioui pulled one back for Cambuur and the match then remained open until Shiloh ‘T Zand found the bottom corner in the 96th minute to seal the victory.
ADO Den Haag 1-4 Groningen
Groningen made it two wins out of two with a big win in the Hague.
Thom van Bergen found the bottom corner to make it 1-0 in the 15th minute before Brynjolfur Willumsson doubled the lead following a VAR review.
Groningen were far too strong for the hosts and it was 3-0 before the break as Tygo Land set up David van der Werff to add a third.
Yannick Eduardo’s strike made it 3-1 but there was to be no comeback as Nils Eggens sealed the victory for Groningen with an excellent shot into the top corner.
FC Twente 3-1 PEC Zwolle
FC Twente came from behind to see off PEC Zwolle.
After an error in the Twente defence, Elias Sorensen fired PEC Zwolle into an early lead but Daouda Weidmann’s strike into the top corner made it 1-1.
Dylan Mbayo’s own goal made it 2-1 for Twente before Daan Rots sealed the victory with a strike into the bottom corner.
FC Twente seals their first win in the league while PEC Zwolle make it two losses out of two.
Feyenoord 2-2 Go Ahead Eagles
Feyenoord threw away a 2-0 lead against Go Ahead Eagles in De Kuip.
Gjivai Zechiel gave Feyenoord the lead after 32 minutes and when Ayase Ueda quickly made it 2-0 it seemed that an easy victory was on the cards.
However, in the second half, Feyenoord failed to kill the game and the nerves crept in when Soren Tengestedt latched onto a through ball before finding the bottom corner.
Ueda went close with a header while at the other end, Giovanni van Zwam hit the post from close range. With ten minutes left, Go Ahead Eagles did equalise as Stefan Sigurdarson headed in.
The visitors even came close to a winner before the end as Feyenoord managed to hold on for a point.
Ajax 2-2 Heerenveen
Ajax also threw away a 2-0 lead as they were held by Heerenveen.
The hosts began strongly and after only seven minutes the ball came back off the post and hit goalkeeper Bart Klaverboer before nestling in the net.
Abdellah Ouazana started with Mika Godts departing and he doubled the lead with a lovely strike from distance.
Kasper Dolberg missed a big chance for the third and just before the break, Jacob Trenskow pulled one with a fierce strike.
The second half was a poor affair but ten minutes before the end, Maxence Rivera found the net off the underside of the crossbar to make it 2-2 at the end.
The draw means Ajax sits on four points and they must prepare for their Conference League clash with Sion on Thursday.
