Good guy's farewell, noisy Elland Road visitors and Leeds United FPL headache in off-camera Augsburg moments The YEP’s take and off-camera moments from Leeds United’s victory against FC Augsburg. Leeds United concluded an impressive pre-season with Saturday’s 4-0 victory against Bundesliga side FC Augsburg at Elland Road in which a host of Whites players but also both sets of supporters impressed. Here’s the YEP’s take. Good day Tarik Muharemovic It’s already blindingly obvious that Leeds have signed a very special player in Muharemovic and that even his £34.1m price tag might end up looking like a snip, a bit like the £17m the club got Raphinha for. Muharemovic has a long, long way to go before he can be mentioned in the same breath as Raphinha and clearly the pair are completely different players in totally different positions. But Muharemovic was exceptional against Augsburg, solid as a rock defensively but with some very classy touches and passes and even scoring with an overhead kick. Many of United’s players excelled but there was no doubt Muharemovic was top of the pile and he clearly wasn’t messing when he signalled his intent to be a goal threat upon joining the club. Muharemovic or Joe Rodon for the FPL team though? Either - or both. James Justin There are several other Leeds players you could pick out for high praise but Justin is probably worth the second mention, especially on the back of missing a penalty in the shoot out defeat to Manchester United in Dublin on Wednesday. Justin, though, produced an excellent display against Augsburg at a time when Leeds might need him the most with first choice left back Gabi Gudmundsson injured and Sebastiaan Bornauw on his way to Hamburg. Justin looks nailed on to start next weekend’s Premier League opener at Nottingham Forest unless Gudmundsson makes a quick recovery next week but he showed on Saturday that he’s a more than able deputy with a performance not too dissimilar to Muharemovic’s, strong in defence but very much a threat at the other end too and netting a lovey goal after a very neat one-two with Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Bad day Joel Piroe Whites boss Daniel Farke had 13 substitutes on his bench and six of them got minutes in Sean Longstaff, Noah Okafor, Dan James, Lukas Nmecha, Ao Tanaka and Joel Piroe. Tanaka and Piroe were only given 14 minutes but whereas Tanaka made a decent impact in setting up Nmecha for the fourth goal, nothing came off for Piroe as he played in a no 10 role behind Nmecha who himself applied a very tidy finish for his goal. A couple of heavy touches saw the ball bounce of Piroe leading to possession being lost, hardly the end of the world in a friendly but it won’t have been the impact he was hoping to make and there are now huge doubts about his future with the striker seemingly keen to leave and West Ham showing interest. Piroe has been an excellent signing for Leeds, playing a key role in taking the club up but it does appear now that this will only end one way. Off-camera moments A few Augsburg fans dotted around outside the ground a good three hours before kick-off and some Leeds/Augsburg half and half scarves being sold. James Trafford taking in his new surroundings with a few looks around the ground during the goalkeepers’ warm up with Alex Cairns and Rory Mahady. Ethan Ampadu again playing the club captain role to perfection as he raced straight over to the East Stand to applaud United’s fans as the first outfield player out for the warm up. An amazing amount of yellow away shirts in the stands. There were already loads of them last weekend against RB Leipzig but they’ve now multiplied. Augsburg’s small group of travelling fans suddenly coming out with an almighty loud chant early in the first half, much to the surprise of everyone else in the ground. The South Stand hit back with a chant of “what the flipping hell was that” or words to that effect and “you’re only here to watch the Leeds” but it’s the sort of thing United’s supporters would have rated. Good on them. United’s players and Farke doing a lap of the ground and applauding the fans as they signed off from an excellent pre-season. Farke and the players were given a terrific reception back and there is definitely a lot of excitement ahead of the new campaign. The Augsburg fans staying in their section long after the full-time whistle and making a racket again. Muharemovic being very much in demand after the full time whistle, speaking to LUTV in the West Stand and then heading over to the East Stand to get his man of the match award before coming back over to the West Stand to speak to the local press. The Athletic’s Beren Cross wishing Bornauw all the best for the future as they crossed paths on the way out, Bornauw likely setting foot inside Elland Road for the last time as a Leeds player. He appreciated the best wishes and seems like a very decent bloke, hence Farke being keen to grant him his move. Ampadu wished good luck for the new season from yours truly upon crossing paths outside the East Stand lifts, the captain saying thank you for the best wishes before heading on his way as he prepares to lead the Whites into this exciting new campaign.
