Francisco Moura: Coventry City update as rush needed for transfer

Coventry City’s interest in Porto left-back Francisco Moura is unlikely to go uncontested, with fresh reports from Portugal claiming the defender is attracting attention from across Europe’s biggest leagues.
Earlier this summer, Portuguese reports said Porto’s plans to renew Zaidu Sanusi’s contract and sign another left-back could open the door for Moura to leave the Estádio do Dragão this summer.
Now, A Bola reports Frank Lampard’s side are far from the only club monitoring the 26-year-old, with interest stretching well beyond England.
Interest building across Europe
According to the Portuguese newspaper, Moura has already attracted enquiries from clubs in four of Europe’s ‘Big Five’ leagues – England, Spain, Italy and Germany.
Coventry City have previously been named as admirers, but A Bola says they are not the only English club keeping a close eye on the defender’s situation.
The report does not identify the other interested side or sides, although it suggests Moura’s performances have put him firmly on the radar across several markets.
That growing interest has not changed Porto’s position. A Bola explains many clubs have approached the situation hoping to negotiate loan deals with an option to buy.
Porto, however, are giving priority to a permanent transfer and have no intention of letting the defender leave for anything they consider below his value.
According to the report, both Fiorentina and Deportivo La Coruña explored moves for Moura before switching their attention elsewhere because cheaper alternatives were available.
In Deportivo’s case, the Spanish club are now close to completing the signing of Angeliño from Roma on loan with a €2.5m (£2.2m) purchase option.
Coventry City facing a tougher battle
Reports from Portugal continue to suggest Porto could be willing to sanction Moura’s departure if the right offer arrives, particularly as the club reshape their options on the left side of defence.
At the same time, the Sky Blues may not have a free run at the defender.
With interest now said to be coming from England, Spain, Italy and Germany, and Porto standing firm on a permanent sale rather than a loan, any club hoping to sign Moura this summer may have to move decisively and meet the Portuguese side’s valuation.
