Conflicting reports have emerged as Tottenham Hotspur continue their push to sign Cody Gakpo from Liverpool this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur‘s pursuit of forward options looks to have entered hyperdrive with less than a month left before the summer transfer window slams shut.
In the last few weeks, reports linking Tottenham with a move for Cody Gakpo have been rife, with several outlets claiming that the Lilywhites have made contact with Liverpool.
It is also claimed that Gakpo himself is considering a move to north London as Spurs’ interest in securing his signature intensifies.
Journalist pours cold water on Tottenham progress in Cody Gakpo talks
While that seems like good news for Tottenham fans, journalist Sam Tabuteau has now come out to pour cold water on reports claiming contact has been made between Liverpool and Spurs.
According to the journalist, his Liverpool sources believe that no contact has been made between Tottenham and the Reds.
Just yesterday, Spurs Web relayed Florian Plettenberg’s report regarding Tottenham’s pursuit of Gakpo, with the journalist revealing that concrete talks have begun while contact has been made with Liverpool.
Taking to X, Tabuteau wrote: “Liverpool sources deny there has been any contact so far with Tottenham over a deal for Cody Gakpo THFC”
This comes after rumours that Tottenham have already made a £60m bid for Gakpo. Other sources have reported that Spurs have also made contact with Liverpool about a deal.
Spurs still pushing for Gakpo despite conflicting reports
Other journalist do seem to believe that progress is being made by Tottenham in their attempts to sign Gakpo this summer.
Dutch journalist Blaauwhof reported a few days back that conviction is starting to prevail that the transfer of Cody Gakpo to Spurs is becoming very realistic.
The journalist further claimed that the chance of success is now quite high, although he revealed that Liverpool still needs to agree.
Reports have it that the Reds are looking to secure a replacement for the Dutchman before they can sanction his exit this summer.
