De Cordova-Reid in particular looked fairly underwhelming in the League Cup tie against Northampton Town, as well as disappointing in the league fixture against Notts County at the weekend; City drew that clash. Selecting the Jamaica international ahead of Opoku was described as "shocking" by the Foxes outlet, and this writer agrees with that assessment in principle. What's next for Nathan Opoku at Leicester City? Opoku previously featured in the Belgian top flight for OH Leuven, scoring five goals in 27 appearances, before netting six times in 32 League Two outings for Newport last season. He also signed a new contract with the East Midlands outfit last year, only to then be sidelined from first-team consideration despite his strong offseason form. Having been assigned the number 42 shirt and still being very much a part of the City squad, Opoku could yet force his way into contention through a variety of avenues. Injuries to others, a continued high standard of play in reserve matches, underperformance from his rivals or impressive showings in training could all open the door for the forward to finally earn a proper shot with the Leicestershire side.
