Sunderland are particularly keen to add greater quality on the right side of their attack this summer, with Catamo capable of operating as either a winger or wing-back. No agreement has yet been reached, but discussions are taking place over a deal which would bring the Sporting attacker to the Stadium of Light. Catamo joined Sporting’s academy from Portuguese lower-league club Amora in 2019 and made his senior debut against Portimonense in December 2021. After loan spells with Vitória Guimarães and Marítimo, he returned to Sporting and established himself as an important member of their first-team squad. Catamo has registered 21 goals across 130 appearances for the Lisbon club in all competitions, including seven during the 2025-26 campaign. He scored six times in 41 outings during his breakthrough season in 2023-24, including both goals in a 2-1 derby victory over Benfica. The winger signed a new five-year Sporting contract in December 2023, with a release clause worth €60million (approximately £51.4million) included in that agreement. That figure does not necessarily reflect the fee Sporting would demand for his services this summer, however, and negotiations over a potential move remain ongoing. Born in Maputo, Catamo began his development with Maxaquene and Black Bulls in Mozambique before moving to Portugal. He also spent time with Porto’s youth set-up and had a trial with Benfica earlier in his career. Catamo made his senior Mozambique debut in 2019 and scored during a 2-0 victory over Mauritius. He has since become an established international and helped his country record their first Africa Cup of Nations victory against Gabon in December 2025. His pace, direct running and ability to beat defenders would offer Sunderland a different option on the right as they prepare to compete across the Premier League and Europa League. Catamo is also an international teammate of Sunderland left-back Reinildo Mandava.
