London City Lionesses have completed the signing of Spanish midfielder Daniela Arques from Sporting Clube de Portugal, with the transfer subject to international clearance. The 20-year-old has agreed a three-year contract after spending the 2025/26 season in Portugal. During her time at Sporting, Arques made 32 appearances and registered three assists, becoming a regular presence in midfield. Having already built up senior experience in Spain and Portugal, as well as enjoying success with Spain's youth national teams, Arques arrives in London with an impressive resume despite her age. Career path from Spain to Portugal Arques began her career with SMX Athletic Club de Murcia, where she developed between 2016 and 2021, before joining Alhama CF. It was there that she progressed into the senior side and made her first-team debut as a teenager. A move to Levante UD followed in 2023, allowing Arques to compete in Spain's top flight before she joined Sporting in July 2025. She also claimed back-to-back UEFA Women's Under-19 European Championship titles in 2024 and 2025, becoming one of only a handful of players to lift the trophy in consecutive years. Arques eager for WSL challenge Speaking after completing the move, Arques said: "I'm really excited to be joining London City and can't wait to get started. "Coming to the UK to play in the Women's Super League is a brilliant opportunity and I'm looking forward to developing as a player and as a person. Being surrounded by experienced players and learning from them every day is something I'm really excited about.
