Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has said he would like to add two new signings to his squad ahead of next Saturday’s trip to Swansea City, admitting that a centre-back and a left-sided player remain his priorities. The Blades chief made the admission after watching his side draw 0-0 with Birmingham City in their first Championship outing of the season at Bramall Lane on Saturday evening. It has been a frustrating summer on the transfer front for the Blades, who have drafted in just three new signings with a little over a fortnight remaining in the window. Brentford loanee Romelle Donovan was the only new addition to feature against the Blues. Following the departure of Gustavo Hamer to Coventry City, United are now searching for a replacement for the 29-year-old, alongside their ongoing search for defensive reinforcements. It is understood that former Blades centre-back Anel Ahmedhodžić is on their radar after talks with Leicester City over a deal to re-sign Harry Souttar stalled. Although Wilder has accepted that United are shopping in a different market this summer due to the absence of parachute payments, he is keen to strengthen his squad, admitting that he would like to bring in at least one new face in time for the trip to the Swansea.com Stadium. “My job at the moment is, of course, to help prepare the team with the coaches, who have been first class,” Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield. “But always, the fatigue in me is trying to make sure that we try to bring good players into the club. “Everybody knows; everybody's seen my thoughts on it. There's no confrontation with the board; I know they're trying to help. “The landscape, as I've said, is a different landscape without the parachute payments. We're not in a position to go ‘permanent, permanent’. We have to be really patient and work hard to get that bit of quality that we obviously need. “Position-wise, another centre-half, as I have talked about continually, even though I thought Macca (Mark McGuinness) and Japh (Japhet Tanganga) did really well today. “The obvious one is off the left, that we bring in a bit of quality. But as I've just said in the interview, it's going to be like the Wild West. Nobody wants to do loans; everybody wants to do permanents. “Everybody's waiting and waiting, and all of a sudden, the floodgates will open. I preferably would like somebody, stroke one, stroke two, in for next week. I'll push and work as hard as I possibly can to make that happen for the players and the football club.”
