Now, the 2022 World Cup winner is starting a new chapter in his rich career with Atletico Madrid. Given how Los Rojiblancos have played under Diego Simeone for more than a decade, Romero fits the bill perfectly. From Tottenham’s perspective, Romero’s departure continues a major overhaul of the squad under De Zerbi. The N17 bosses have sufficiently replaced the central defender by signing Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke. Losing Romero is a big blow, but De Zerbi has got players to stabilise his defence and give Tottenham a new identity.
