Former Reds striker says that Liverpool selling Cody Gakpo to Spurs will allow them to finally sign Bradley Barcola from PSG. The 23-year-old French international is their top transfer target this summer, but PSG have proved extremely difficult to negotiate with. The Merseysiders have been on the hook, so to speak, all summer with the window getting dangerously close to shutting without Barcola making the move to Anfield. However, the French champions are now in a position where they actually cannot afford to keep Barcola and, indeed, Ibrahim Mbaye, as they simply have too many attackers. Luis Enrique now has seven top attackers in his squad. Between Ousmane Dembele, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desiree Doue, Ferran Torres, Mika Godts, Barcola and Mbaye, there is no way to play them all enough and keep them happy. Both Mbaye and Barcola want to leave for Liverpool, with the hope that PSG’s transfer work being finished will allow this to happen. Peter Crouch believes Cody Gakpo is crucial to the Barcola pursuit crossing the finish line In comments carried by the Liverpool Echo, Crouch commented on the drawn-out pursuit of Barcola and how Gakpo factors into the equation. Crouch said: “It does look like they’ll be getting rid of Gakpo potentially to Spurs, so they need a top-quality winger to come in. Barcola is a player I really like. “Look, no-one is ever going to be able to replace [Mo] Salah goals-wise, but he’s immensely talented and would be a good signing. “PSG have got top wingers in (Khvicha) Kvaratskhelia and (Desire) Doue so it’s hard for (Barcola) to compete and play 90 minutes regularly, but I think he’d walk into most people’s teams in Europe. “Gakpo (would) do really well (at Spurs). He would go straight into the squad and be one of the main men. “Going forward has obviously been a problem for Spurs the last couple of seasons. Certainly last year they missed a lot of creativity and a lot of goals. “Gakpo would bring something different to the team for sure.” PSG will need to lower their asking price for Barcola for Liverpool to sign him; otherwise, he will remain in Paris, which benefits no one. Reportedly, paying the €192k-a-week (£164k/week) wages he earns will be no issue, although the amount he earns in Liverpool will likely be more than that.
