Newcastle United leaked team news confirms double injury boost v Strasbourg as new captain unveiled
Newcastle United v Strasbourg team news: Matthias Jaissle has been handed a welcome injury boost ahead of the new Premier League season.
Dan Burn will lead Newcastle United for the first time since being officially named as the new club captain this afternoon against Strasbourg at St James’ Park.
The Magpies host the Ligue 1 outfit on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the Visit Malta trophy on Saturday. The match against Strasbourg sees head coach Matthias Jaissle name a completely different starting line-up having split his squad between the two games.
Speaking after the Leverkusen game, Jaissle said: “Yeah, we needed to split, first of all, because it doesn't make sense that the lads play two games in a row [in two days].

“But the most important thing now in the last friendlies is that you see everyone over 90 minutes. And there are different approaches. Some of them, they could use one more training day, especially the guys who returned later or came back from an injury.
“So there are many, many aspects to consider. And again, there's nothing to do with the starting 11 or not.”
It will be Burn’s first appearance of pre-season having only recently returned from an extended World Cup break on the back of England’s third-place finish at the tournament. He will be partnered by the returning Fabian Schar, who has not been seen in action since picking up an injury during the 4-1 defeat at Bristol City last month.
Schar has had a difficult 2026 on the injury front after suffering an ankle ligament injury back in January, which ultimately cut his 2025/26 campaign short following a subsequent foot infection.

Ewen Jaouen also returns to the side after missing the Everton and Valencia matches due to a back injury. Nick Pope is not included in the squad after being made available for transfer.
Joelinton and Tino Livramento are out due to injury, while first-team players such as Jacob Ramsey, Aladji Bamba, Bazoumana Toure, Jacob Murphy and William Osula are back involved after not featuring against Leverkusen.
Team news confirmed at 2pm.
