Liverpool could lose PSG forward Ibrahim Mbaye to Manchester United amid reports that the Mancunians have held direct talks with the player’s agents.
The Reds have dawdled this summer, with their transfer work no closer to being finished than it was a week ago. There are just two weeks left before the Premier League transfer deadline on 1 September at 11 pm, with very few indications that the necessary work will be done before then.
Liverpool did, of course, complete a Deadline Day deal to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for a Premier League record fee last summer, but this is more evidence that the Reds are happy to leave crucial business until the last minute.
The Merseysiders remain locked in talks with PSG over Bradley Barcola while the Mbaye transfer file has gone eerily quiet over the last week, which has now created room for Manchester United to investigate their chances of completing a deal for the Senegal international.
Manchester United hold talks for Mbaye amid Liverpool’s delay in completing a deal
According to a report from Football Fancast, Manchester United have held direct discussions with Mbaye’s agent, Jorge Mendes, to explore the 18-year-old’s potential desire to make a move to Old Trafford and to explore what his hypothetical wage demands for said move would be.
The report, penned by Ben Goodwin, reads: “With Bryan Mbeumo increasingly being deployed through the middle in pre-season, United are said to be eyeing a new, versatile wide option to rival Amad on the right – someone who can operate across the front line in a similar mould to Mbeumo. That search has led them to PSG’s Ibrahim Mbaye.
“United were linked with an approach for the Senegal international earlier this week, with reports in Spain claiming Old Trafford chiefs have already made contact with PSG over a potential deal, while Liverpool and Aston Villa have also been credited with interest.
“Football FanCast sources can now confirm that the conversation has moved a step further – United have been in direct dialogue with Mbaye’s representatives to establish his interest levels and wage demands. The player is understood to be open to a move to the Premier League, though he specifically wants to remain in the Champions League, a box that both United and Liverpool tick.”
