It is clear that Rafael Leao is not what he once was, but even beyond that, he has fallen in rank at AC Milan. Leao hasn’t been at his Scudetto-winning level for some time now, but he was still better than most wingers despite this. However, that isn’t the case this summer. He’s looked a little shaky and he is vulnerable. Read SempreMilan ad-free and get access to exclusive news. Click here for a free trial! Cisse the main threat After reports from Gazzetta dello Sport yesterday – which stated that he was seen as a negative influence internally – he replied, stating that it wasn’t true. However, his position in the dressing room isn’t what it once was. As Gazzetta write this morning, ‘Leao’s back is against the wall’. He didn’t feature in the game against Manchester United yesterday and they didn’t need him to. He’s no longer the immovable player that the Rossoneri depend on, far from it, actually. After the game, Ruben Amorim said as much, even stating that Serie B signing Alphadjo Cisse is a threat to his position and it only fuels the idea that he can leave this summer. Leao’s DNA questioned The Italian winger applied pressure to the United defence, which isn’t in ‘Leao’s DNA’. Playing poorly in recent games isn’t just down to Leao, but a lack of balance hasn’t helped them and that is what the Portuguese now brings. With his injury, he may not be available to play against Torino, but would he be guaranteed a spot? The answer is no. Christian Pulisic seems to be the heir to that spot when he is ready to play, and then it could well be Cisse behind him. What is clear, though, is that it’s no longer Leao-central at San Siro. He either must change that with his performances, or change where is Leao-Central.
