Harry Maguire hopes Marcus Rashford will stay at Manchester United in the final weeks of the summer transfer window. The 28-year-old is back at his boyhood club after Barcelona opted against triggering their option to make his loan move permanent at the end of the season. United had initially expected to move Rashford on this summer, but there has been a lack of serious interest due to both his huge wage demands and the fact they wanted to receive a transfer fee for him. Rashford was frozen out under former head coach Ruben Amorim when he admitted he wanted a 'new challenge' in his professional career. His last appearance for the club came in December 2024, before he later joined Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the campaign. Advert He then opted to join Barcelona last season, where he notched 14 goals and the same amount of assists as they won La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup. Rashford returned to United training earlier this month and has been offered a pathway back into the first-team squad under former teammate Michael Carrick. The academy graduate returned to the pitch over the weekend, when he featured from the bench in their 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in Wroclaw, who are now managed by Amorim. Speaking after the friendly defeat, Maguire admitted he would love Rashford to remain at the club this season as they look to challenge for the Premier League. "Obviously the transfer window is still open," he told reporters after the match. "As players, we hope he stays because if he does, he is a big asset to have. He can improve us for sure. "You saw when he came on, he threatened the backline really well. He could have scored. He's a huge threat. "I've played with Marcus for numerous years and I know that playing against him and playing with him in training is going to help us." What Carrick said about Rashford future Speaking after they drew 1-1 with Leeds United last week, Carrick stated that Rashford had 'come back great' from his summer break and insisted he could have a role to play in the first-team this coming season. "He's our player, you know, and he's come back great. He's just like any other player," he told ITV Sport. "I've known Marcus a long time and, you know, he gives us something a little bit different. And he's been in great spirits since he's been back. "He's been back two or three days training and it's just pretty normal, to be honest. And we're looking forward to the start of the season." It is understood Rashford is United's highest earner on a deal worth roughly £325,000 per week after the club qualified for the Champions League and a 25 per cent wage cut is no longer in place.
