Treaty United fall to Wexford Youths in Women's Premier Division Manager Laurie Ryan was sent off during Treaty’s 4-2 loss to Wexford Youths THE TREATY United ladies suffered a setback on the banks of the River Slaney on Saturday afternoon as they fell to a disappointing 4-2 defeat to Wexford Youth at Ferrycarrig Park. Goals from Emma Oliphant and Fiona Doherty were cancelled out by a brace from Christie Gray, sending the sides in level at the break. However, the Youths seized control in the second half, with Courtney Chochol and substitute Mia Whelan finding the net to claim all three points. Treaty manager Laurie Ryan made a pair of changes from last week’s resounding 5-0 victory over Munster rivals Cork City at the Markets Field, with Kate Jones and Fiona Doherty coming into the starting XI in place of Grace McInerney and Eva Loftus. In the opposing dugout, Stephen Quinn kept faith with the side that had been beaten 3-0 by Athlone Town. It took the Shannonsiders just 11 minutes to snatch the lead. A driving run from deep by Jodie Griffin allowed Caroline Penner to slip in behind the Wexford defence before delivering a superb first-time cross to the back post, where Emma Oliphant was on hand to guide the ball into the net. Moments later, Madison McGuane went close to doubling Treaty’s advantage after being teed up by Katie Lawlee. The skipper held up possession before picking out McGuane in a pocket of space, with her effort from the edge of the box forcing a superb save from Maria O'Sullivan. However, Wexford drew level in the 25th minute. Christie Gray picked up possession on the edge of the Treaty box before taking a touch and drilling a powerful low shot into the bottom corner. McGuane went close again on the half-hour mark, but her snapshot flashed narrowly over the crossbar. The Shannonsiders would not have to wait long to regain the lead, however, with Fiona Doherty putting them back in front. Kyah Coady got on the end of Lawlee’s corner before Doherty controlled the ball on the goal line and flicked it beyond O'Sullivan to restore Treaty’s advantage. However, things began to unravel for the visitors shortly before the interval when Laurie Ryan was shown a red card and sent from the dugout. Worse was to follow moments later as Wexford drew level once again. A superb low cross from Ciara Rossiter found Gray, who swivelled before burying her effort into the net to complete her brace. The Youths carried that momentum into the second half and went in front twelve minutes after the restart through a superb solo effort from Courtney Chochol. The Canadian picked up possession in a deep position before driving through the heart of the Treaty defence and toe-poking her finish into the bottom corner. Treaty thought they had equalised with fifteen minutes remaining when they found the net from an inswinging corner. However, goalkeeper O'Sullivan was adjudged by referee Darragh White to have been impeded in the build-up, much to the frustration of the Shannonsiders. Five minutes from time, the game was put beyond doubt when Wexford were awarded a penalty for a shirt pull on Mia Whelan. The 15-year-old stepped up and calmly fired into the bottom corner to score on her League of Ireland debut. The Shannonsiders will hope to regroup when they return to the Markets Field to face Bohemians in two week’s time.
