Prabath Jayasuriya gets his fourth wicket. Manav Suthar tries to clear the deep mid-wicket boundary, but the ball does not have the legs.
He has played a good hand for 24. He tried to get a few big hits out of the way. It was the right approach as India need as many as they can here.
Sri Lanka are thrilled with the way they have bowled today.

LIVE: WICKET! Mohammed Siraj falls for 11
Well, that was the end of the cameo from Mohammed Siraj. The Indain tail-ender was looking to smash spinners out of the park. Dhananjaya de Silva did well to bring his pacer, Asitha Fernando into the attack. And Asitha gets the wicket. Siraj looks to clear long-off, but he gives a straightforward catch.

IND vs SL live: Siraj ahead of Kuldeep Yadav?
Yes, Mohammed Siraj swung his bat and collected 11 runs in Kushara Nuwantha's over. But, is this the right call?
Are India looking at declaring overnight? Sanjay Manjrekar, on air, points out that Kuldeep Yadav is a better batter than Siraj. And that Kuldeep should have walked out to bat at No. 9.

Day 2 live score: SIX! Mohammed Siraj gets going
It seems Mohammed Siraj has come out with a single-minded approach: throw the kitchen sink at everything.
He lined up off-spinner Keshara Nuwantha and slogged him over the mid-wicket region. A big six that was.
India have gone past 440 now.

SL vs IND Live: Dhruv Jurel out for 52, sensational catch from Dhananjaya
Well, Dhruv Jurel has not been able to kick on and get a hundred. A beautiful delivery from Prabath Jayasuriya. The left-arm spinner got one to turn and fizz off the pitch and Dhruv was trying to play into the leg side, but gets a thick outside edge. And captain Dhananjaya de Silva, who was at first slip, took a sensational catch, diving to his right.
It was Dhananjaya, who dropped Dhruv in his 20s. But, he has made up for it.

SL vs IND Live: FIFTY! Dhruv Jurel gets to his second fifty
A terrific fifty from Dhruv Jurel. The wicketkeeper-batter gets to his second Test fifty. He was dropped when he was in his 20s, but from there, Dhruv has found ways to keep the scoreboard ticking.
He always looks pleasing to the eye.
And coach Gautam Gambhir is happy for Dhruv. He was under a bit of pressure as India had recalled Sarfaraz Khan, who is suited to batting at No. 6. Quite a few said Sarfaraz would be a better choice, considering his ability to play spin well.
But, Dhruv has done the job so far. Can he push on and getting a hundred?

IND vs SL Live: Manav Suthar looking solid
Manav Suthar moves past 15. The left-handed batter is giving Dhruv Jurel good company. These two have added 47 runs together now.
Suthar effortlessly flicked Lahiru Kumara, who had been expensive in the post-Tea session.
Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel gets a boundary to get closer to his fifty.
Keep in mind, Manav Suthar has a first-class hundred.
These runs will be vital as India go past 400.
LIVE SCORE: India (424/6 in 108 overs) vs Sri Lanka. Dhruv (48*), Manav (16*) in Galle.

Live score: Lahiru Kumara leaking runs
Lahiru Kumara had an expensive couple of overs as India continued to pile on the runs. He conceded 15 runs in his previous over, with Dhruv Jurel and Manav Suthar finding the boundaries regularly. In the next over, Kumara was again punished as a delivery went for four byes after bouncing awkwardly in front of the wicketkeeper and running away to the fine-leg boundary.

SL vs IND Live: India go past 400!
India have moved past 400 as Manav Suthar gets a fortunate four off an edge. It is the second boundary of the over after Dhruv Jurel's much more convincing shot.
He spots the shortish delivery early, swivels into position and hammers the pull behind square, finding the gap between the two fielders in the deep.

Live score: DROPPED! Dhruv Jurel gets another life
DROPPED! Dhruv Jurel gets another life as he rocks back to cut a not-so-short delivery from Prabath Jayasuriya. He gets a thick edge that flies quickly towards first slip, but Dhananjaya de Silva cannot hold on. Jurel survives.

SL vs IND Live: SIX! Jurel hits it out of the park
Dhruv Jurel stepped out of his crease against Keshara Nuwantha and went for the big shot. He got to the pitch of the 82.6kph delivery and swung hard, sending the ball high over cow corner for a six. It was a clean strike from Jurel as he took on the spinner and cleared the boundary with ease.

SL vs IND Live: Manav Suthar is the new man in
Manav Suthar, who is no mug with the bat, has walked in at No. 8. He needs to stick around with Dhruv Jurel. At the start of the day's play, India looked set for a total around 500.
But, now, they have lost four wickets in quick succession. The new ball has spun more and the Sri Lankan bowlers have bowled better lengths, targetting the fuller-length area more than yesterday.
And it has worked in their favour.

Live score: WICKET! Ravindra Jadeja is out LBW for 13
WICKET! Ravindra Jadeja is out for 13 off 25 balls. Keshara Nuwantha trapped him lbw with a slider, and Jadeja reviewed the decision.
Replays showed the ball would have hit the leg stump, so the decision stayed with the umpire’s call. Nuwantha gets his third wicket.
Aug 16, 2026 16:32 IST
SL vs IND Live: Ravindra Jadeja and Dhruv Jurel steady in final session
A good start from Ravindra Jadeja and Dhruv Jurel. Prabath Jayasuriya is bowling a probing spell post-tea. But, Jurel and Jadeja have done well, taking their partnership past 20 runs.
Jadeja is hanging back and playing it late. Jurel, on the other hand, has looked solid. There was chatter before this match that Sarfaraz Khan would replace Jurel. The wicketkeeper-batter needs a vital contribution here to ensure the chatter remains only a chatter.
LIVE SCORE: India (377/5 in 98 overs) vs Sri Lanka on Day 2. Jadeja (13*), Dhruv (22*) in Galle.

SL vs IND Live: WICKET!! Padikkal's marathon stay ends
And there it is. Devdutt Padikkal's magnificent innings ends at 167, but there is plenty of credit for Prabath Jayasuriya. He spotted Padikkal stepping out, fired the second new ball quicker and flatter, and beat him for pace.
Padikkal had left his crease a touch early, allowing Niroshan Dickwella to whip off the bails in a flash. Exactly the wicket Sri Lanka needed, and a clever piece of bowling to finally break India's long partnership.
The India no.3 walks back to a standing ovation, with his teammates on their feet applauding a superb 167 off 230 balls, with 15 fours and a six.
SL vs IND 1st Test Day 2: India (357/5 in 92 ovs). Padikkal (164)*, Jurel (16)*

SL vs IND Live: Padikkal keeps the runs coming
Padikkal is showing no signs of slowing down. He moves into the 160s with a crisp cut through backward point, adding a couple and a single around it as India continue to build after the quick dismissals of Pant and Rahul.
Dhruv Jurel has looked positive at the other end too, picking up three through cover after a fumble in the field. He was beaten by Asitha Fernando's movement off the pitch later in the over, but India are comfortably ticking along.
SL vs IND 1st Test Day 2: India (346/4 in 89 ovs). Padikkal (164)*, Jurel (8)*

SL vs IND Live: 150 comes up for Padikkal
Devdutt Padikkal is now in some seriously good company. With his score past 150, he has become only the third Indian batter to make a 150-plus score at No. 3 against Sri Lanka, joining Rahul Dravid and Cheteshwar Pujara.
- Rahul Dravid — 177, Ahmedabad (2009)
- Cheteshwar Pujara — 153, Galle (2017)
- Devdutt Padikkal — 150, Galle (2026)*
Padikkal is now adding his name to that list in what has already been a landmark Test for him.
SL vs IND 1st Test Day 2: India (333/4 in 87 ovs). Padikkal (155*), Jurel (4)*

SL vs IND Live: WICKET! KL Rahul did not see that coming
That is a smart wicket for Sri Lanka. Keshara Nuwantha gets one to turn and bounce, Rahul is cramped for room and the ball goes straight to Nishan Fernando at short leg.
Fernando was stationed there for exactly this possibility and makes no mistake. Rahul walks back for a valuable 82 off 175 balls, including 10 fours and a six.
A timely breakthrough for Sri Lanka after India had started to settle again. Padikkal remains unbeaten, while Dhruv Jurel joins him at the crease.
SL vs IND 1st Test Day 2: India (319/4 in 84.1 ovs). Padikkal (140)*, Jurel (0)*

SL vs IND Live: KL Rahul settles back in
India have settled nicely after Pant's dismissal. KL Rahul looks assured on his return, picking up a smart four off Asitha Fernando by opening the bat face late and guiding it between gully and second slip.
Padikkal is looking just as comfortable. He cut Nuwantha through backward point for four and survived a loud LBW appeal, while Rahul was beaten later in the over by one that straightened sharply.
Sri Lanka are getting a little more movement now, but India remain in control.
SL vs IND 1st Test Day 2: India (317/3 in 83 ovs). Padikkal (144*), Rahul (82)*
