Coventry City medical today in £21m deal as £17m star 'to join in time for Arsenal'
Coventry City have committed over £90m in transfer fees so far this summer, but work continues to strengthen Frank Lampard’s squad ahead of Arsenal
Coventry City supporters are counting down the days until their side gets their Premier League campaign underway. And off the pitch, work continues to strengthen Frank Lampard’s squad ahead of Friday night’s game against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The club have already committed over £90m in transfer fees, most of which has gone on Aurele Amenda, Caleb Yirenkyi, Carl Rushworth and Loum Tchaouna, while Frank Onyeka and Gustavo Harmer have both returned to the CBS Arena.
And the Sky Blues now appear to be closing in on the signing of Sidiki Cherif from Fenerbahce. Cherif, 19, will reportedly cost around €24.5m (£21m) and undergo a medical today ahead of signing a five-year contract.
Cherif spent the second half of last season on loan at Fenerbahce, who had the obligation of finalising a permanent transfer this summer. He can play on the flank and down the centre, scoring three times and claiming one assist in 16 appearances across all competitions for the Turkish side last season.
To add even more firepower to his squad, Lampard is also looking at signing Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi. One report claims that Awoniyi is already undergoing a medical ahead of a move to the CBS Arena.
The former Liverpool man has scored 21 times in the top-flight during his four years at the City Ground, but Oliver Glasner is ready to cash in on the forward, who has fallen down the pecking order behind Chris Wood and Igor Jesus.

It's claimed that the forward will cost the Sky Blues £17million. Awoniyi was a club-record signing for Forest when they signed him from Union Berlin in 2022, costing £17.2m.
And finally, Coventry continue to be linked with a move for Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong. The defender, who was previously labelled as untouchable during the current summer transfer window, could now be available to leave Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea had rejected multiple approaches for Acheampong earlier this summer, insisting he would be a vital part of new manager Xabi Alonso's plans at Stamford Bridge, but that stance appears to have changed. And now the Sky Blues could land the 20-year-old on loan thanks to Lampard’s good relationship with Chelsea through his playing and managerial career at the club.
The 20-year-old, who can play at right-back, centre-back or left-back, is regarded as one of the brightest prospects at Cobham, having made 44 senior appearances since his debut in 2024. He made 30 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring twice.
