Djed Spence has left Tottenham to join Inter Milan on a permanent deal.
Djed Spence was England’s surprise package at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, producing a string of impressive performances. Yet, he wasn’t deemed an ideal fit by Roberto De Zerbi, leading to Tottenham Hotspur deciding to sell him to Inter Milan.
Spurs have confirmed that Djed Spence has completed a permanent move to Inter Milan. The 26-year-old has joined the Italian giants on a five-year contract in a deal worth €30million, with the North Londoners negotiating a 10 per cent sell-on clause into the deal.
Djed Spence pens emotional farewell message to Tottenham fans
Spence arrived at Tottenham from Middlesbrough in 2022 and only put pen to paper on a new contract last year. However, that was not enough to keep him at White Hart Lane after his strong World Cup campaign. The full-back was open to leaving Spurs and continuing his career abroad.
Having now sealed a move to Inter Milan, the England international has penned a heartfelt message to Spurs supporters on his Instagram account (h/t The Standard). In it, he wrote: “A special chapter comes to an end, it’s been some journey, with plenty of memories, moments and experiences that I’ll carry with me forever, especially that night in Bilbao.
“Thanks to all the staff members who’ve helped me along the way, the players who’ve become family and most importantly, thank you to the fans. Time for a new chapter now, but Spurs will always have a place in my heart.”
A new chapter for Spence
Spence spent much of the last season deputising for Destiny Udogie at left-back and playing second-fiddle to Pedro Porro. He made 44 appearances in all competitions for the Lilywhites, but the summer arrival of Andy Robertson from Liverpool would have limited his opportunities further.
Hence, he decided to end his four-year stay in N17 and launch a career with Inter Milan in Serie A. This, of course, is not the defender’s first adventure in Italy, having spent time on loan with Genoa back in the winter of 2024.
Famous podcaster John Wenham has slammed Tottenham for selling Spence to Inter for an “appalling fee”, but with De Zerbi failing to guarantee him a regular spot in the side, our club had to cash in on the flying full-back. The Englishman’s sale boosts the transfer kitty further, allowing us to sign a competent replacement to provide cover for Porro in the 2026/27 campaign.
