Feyenoord’s Givairo Read says he’s unsure of his future amid the ongoing drama involving Nottingham Forest and AS Roma.
The Premier League side were the first to make an offer for the right-back. In fact, the Reds tabled three offers, the last one around €21-23m, and the Dutch club rejected them.
Nottingham Forest haven’t met Feyenoord’s reported demand of €25m so far but have agreed to a five-year contract with him.
On Thursday, AS Roma came forward with a bid, which is at least €25m. Earlier today, Sport Witness relayed news of the Giallorossi delegation flying to the Netherlands to complete the transfer.
The Serie A side intend to have the 20-year-old on the plane back to Italy as Feyenoord are also willing to negotiate. Oliver Glasner’s side haven’t given up and could make an improved offer to sign him.
There’s been a claim in Italy that Nottingham Forest have made another offer. This hasn’t been backed. up in the Netherlands.
Read responds amid Nottingham Forest and Roma links
Voetbal International had a chat with the Netherlands U21 international and FR12.nl have relayed his comments.
Both Nottingham Forest and the Italian club have made concrete efforts. Givairo Read says he’s waiting for them to find an agreement with Feyenoord before making a decision on his future. However, he refused to discuss his preference.
“Of course, I find it quite exciting. But I can’t see into the future. I don’t know myself what is going to happen. In fact, I don’t think I even know everything that is currently going on, and that is deliberate,” he said.
“My agents keep a lot away from me so that I can keep my head on football and focus fully on getting fit and in shape for the new season. I’ll just see what happens eventually.”
Won’t rule out Feyenoord stay
In November, Givairo Read picked up a hamstring injury that kept him on the sidelines for 54 days. He suffered another setback in January and was out of action for over three months.
The fullback says he’s now in top shape and would like to leave Feyenoord if there’s an opportunity this summer.
“If the opportunity comes at a club I like, then I am ready for it. I can’t explain it; it is a feeling. I feel it. You must always have confidence in yourself,” Read explained.
“I’m fit again. I feel strong physically and mentally. The next step is to show it on the pitch. That is my big goal for this season: to stay fit and play well. I have experienced how quickly things can go wrong in football. You think you are back from an injury and then you have to take a step back again.
“It is not that I think: I have to leave now, because I have learned everything I can here. Certainly not. I still have an awful lot to learn, and I have only just turned 20.
“But what I do say is that if the opportunity for a transfer arises, I want to consider it. You never know how many chances you get in life. And suppose it doesn’t come to a departure, then I will stay and I just want to play for the championship. After that, the next step is the Dutch national team. I hope so.”
Now it’s over to Nottingham Forest and AS Roma.
