Givairo Read: AS Roma attempt to hijack Nottingham Forest transfer

AS Roma have made a decisive move to beat Nottingham Forest in the race to sign Feyenoord’s Givairo Read. That’s according to FR12.nl, who first covered Nottingham Forest’s opening bid for the right-back. Feyenoord have already rejected offers of €17.5m and €20m. Three days ago, we relayed news of the latter submitting a higher proposal of €22-23m, but the Dutch club didn’t accept. Later that day, Sport Witness covered claims that Read has verbally agreed a five-year contract with Nottingham Forest. The Dutch media are confident that he would end up in England this summer. New threat for Nottingham Forest The Serie A side lost Zeki Çelik to Juventus earlier this month and are in the market for a new right-back. This has seen them join the race for Givairo Read and they want to beat Nottingham Forest. To do this, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have already tabled an offer. According to FR12.nl, Nottingham Forest’s latest offer was €21m, €1-2m less than other claims. FR12 don’t have the details of AS Roma’s proposal, but it’s financially more attractive than the Reds’ last bid. The outlet is also not clear whether this is enough to convince the Eredivisie side. Nottingham Forest have to act quickly Oliver Glasner’s side have verbally agreed personal terms with the fullback for a contract until 2031, worth €20m without bonuses. This should give them the upper hand as long as Nottingham Forest return with an improved offer. If not, Roma could beat them as long as they convince the Netherlands U21 international to join them. Recent claims have stated a fee around €25m is enough to convince Feyenoord. Givairo Read has a contract until 2029 and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is that same €25m. There’s every chance these AS Roma claims are a tactic to pressure Nottingham Forest. Evangelos Marinakis will be aware of such practices and is unlikely to be panicked into quickly offering more.
