After Camilo Duran scored his first competitive goal for Celtic, he revealed a message on his T-shirt that read “Fuerza Colombia”. The striker found the net as the Hoops cruised to a 4-0 victory over Dundee United in the Premiership Sports Cup. And after celebrating his first competitive strike for the club, Duran lifted his shirt to reveal the message meaning “Stay Strong Colombia”. It came as his homeland was rocked by one of its largest earthquakes in years. At least 169 people are dead and a state of emergency has been declared after a devastating magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Colombia. [BBC News] The death toll is expected to rise, with fears that more people remain trapped beneath collapsed buildings. The quake struck at 7.34am local time earlier this week at a depth of 103km in Chocó province, according to the country’s geological service. It was felt across a huge area of western Colombia, with many of the deaths concentrated in Cali, the country’s third-largest city. At least 900 people were also injured, according to Colombia’s Association of Capital Cities. Duran’s message was therefore a poignant one as he celebrated his first competitive goal in Celtic colours. On the pitch, the Hoops had taken control before the Colombian striker struck. Auston Trusty opened the scoring before Duran doubled Celtic’s advantage in the first half. Sebastian Tounekti then finished off a counter-attack to put the result beyond doubt, before Benjamin Nygren rounded off the scoring with a fabulous fourth. United hit the woodwork five times but could not find a way through as Celtic comfortably booked their place in the next round. The Tannadice side will be left to rue their missed chances – as well as some slack defending – but Duran’s goal will be remembered for something far more significant than simply putting Celtic 2-0 up.
