Coventry City enjoyed a brilliant 2025/26 campaign under the leadership of Frank Lampard, who steered the Sky Blues back to the Premier League after 25 years away. Lampard has been busy in this transfer window so far, and according to Yagız Sabuncuoglu, as ratified by Fabrizio Romano, the Sky Blues are not done with their summer recruitment and have reached an agreement to sign Sidiki Cherif from Fenerbahce.

Coventry Reach Agreement for Sidiki Cherif
Coventry City appear on the verge of signing Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest. It now looks likely that Cherif will follow him through the CBS Arena doors. So far this summer, Lampard has signed Frank Onyeka, Gustavo Hamer, Aurele Amenda, Loum Tchaouna, Carl Rushworth, and Caleb Yirenkyi. With Awoniyi and Cherif likely to follow, the Sky Blues’ attacking depth will be boosted ahead of their opening-day game against Arsenal on August 21.
The Sky Blues have agreed a deal with Fenerbahce to sign Cherif for £20.4 million. The medical will take place, and barring any last-minute issues, Lampard should have his man.

The business by Lampard this summer has been smart, and recently he spoke to SB Nation about his connection with the club since he joined:
“When I came to Coventry, I was aware of their history as a football club as far as being a top tier team when I grew up. I was aware of it from the outside, but didn’t realize the strength of support from inside the city that the team and the club has,” Lampard said.
“It was great to understand that and it feels even stronger because of the journey. That connection between players and fans has really grown on and off the pitch. Obviously football is the important thing, getting to the Premier League was a huge deal for us, and now it’s nice being part of a journey where the club is trying to grow further.”
The Qualities of Sidiki Cherif
Cherif, at 19, has plenty of raw attributes for Lampard to work with. His work rate is impressive, and it will need to be in a newly promoted side. He is quick, which will benefit Coventry in counter-attacking situations and by giving them an outlet when under pressure.

He’s difficult to dispossess, which again will be a vital tool for Coventry this season. He often looks to produce moments of magic by himself and needs to improve his link-up play. He has previously been described as a player who is “powerful” and “attacks space very well.”
