The Old Trafford club have already acquired Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £50million before snapping up Aston Villa star Youri Tielemans after activating his £35m release clause. Those two acquisitions have strengthened the middle of the park – a real concern for Carrick. But at least one more addition in that area is being considered following the departure of Brazil international Casemiro after his contract expired. The former Real Madrid star has since joined David Beckham-owned Inter Miami on a free transfer. Casemiro's exit has been compounded by Manuel Ugarte's serious injury at this summer's World Cup. The Uruguay international was in line to be sold, with any transfer fee generated from his sale set to fund a top-class player in his position. It is understood that a potential third midfield addition will be in a similar price range to Santos. Those reports will be a blow to Red Devils fans hoping to see their club sign Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni this summer. The France international would be considerably more expensive than the Brazilian. Meanwhile, left-back is another area of concern in Carrick's squad, with Luke Shaw having less than a year left on his current deal. Patrick Dorgu, meanwhile, has looked more comfortable on the left wing, while another option in that position, Noussair Mazzrorui, is more of a right-back. United have a strong interest in Newcastle and England star Lewis Hall. The 21-year-old is seen as the perfect age and has good Premier League experience already. But a possible deal now looks difficult following Newcastle's other big-name departures this summer. It is, therefore, possible that United will sign a lower-profile left-back this summer before revisiting a potential deal for Hall in 2027, by which time Shaw's contract will have expired. Carrick is determined to improve his squad further this summer as he looks to build on last season's third-placed Premier League finish. The former Red Devils midfielder won 12 out of his 17 games in charge of United last season, although Saturday's 4-2 defeat to AC Milan – managed by former United boss Ruben Amorim – will have raised alarm bells.
