1 down, 45 to go. The moment we had all been waiting for, has come and gone. All summer we waited for the first EFL League One game of the season, and what a cracker it was. Only the Hatters can put us through the complete range of emotions in such a short space of time, but the huge smiles on the faces of the 2,432 away supporters, at the end, showed what that last gasp winner meant to them. With Luton Town being the only team to win, in the three fixtures that kicked off early, for a couple of hours we were, as the travelling support acknowledged, top of the table. Unfortunately, that feeling did not last for long with, when the dust settled, the Hatters sitting in 4th place in the EFL League One table. However, we can console ourselves with the fact that, with 4 goals we were the top scorers in the EFL o the opening day of the 2026/2027 season. Also, it was great to see the EFL back, wall-to-wall football, although I can’t help that think when the juggernaut that is the Premier League returns next week, our coverage will not quite be so forthright. Yesterday, one of the contenders for the player-of-the-match was, undoubtedly, Kasey Palmer. It was Palmer that dragged us back into the game, early in the second half, with two quickfire goals. Indeed, looking at the statistics, since pulling on a Luton Town shirt, Kasey has scored 10 goals in 21 league games, prior to joining the Hatters, first on loan and then on a permanent basis, the powerful midfielder had only scored 21 goals in 237 league games. Sadly, one of the few negative aspects of the game was seeing Hakeem Odoffin being led away after a clash of heads, unfortunately, if it is deemed to be a concussion injury, Hakeem may be, on medical grounds, banned from playing against Notts County, next Saturday. Lastly, after scoring a hat trick, the former Luton Town striker on the books of Reading, Jack Marriott, might not be so keen to get the match ball signed and put on display, at his humble abode, after watching his side lose 4-3!
