Hibs record breaker's transfer price tag 'rising' as chances of another big money move assessed
Serie A sides have expressed an interest in the former Hibee
Hellas Verona face temptation to cash in on Kieron Bowie only seven months after his record-breaking transfer from Hibs.
The 23-year old striker switched Easter Road for the north of Italy in January in what is the Premiership club’s highest ever fee gained for an outgoing transfer. Bowie wasn’t able to save Hellas Verona from relegation to the Serie B, however local reports suggest is price tag is only ‘rising’.
Hellas owner Cristian Puscasiu has intimated that the club will throw the kitchen sink at regaining top flight status, however there may be a quicker route than that for Bowie, who is reportedly being monitored by Serie A sides Sassuolo and Cagliari. The club are also considering offloading fullback Rafik Belghali after his successful World Cup with Algeria has also bumped up his transfer fee.
Bowie transfer fee ‘rising’ as Hellas exit chances assessed
According to Italian media outlet L’Arena Sport: “Bowie’s situation, tied to Hellas until 2030, is interesting and worth monitoring. His market value is around seven million (Euros). Sassuolo and Cagliari are coming forward. And the price tag is rising. Because when Serie A calls, the stakes become even more tempting. The Scotsman, therefore, is worth no less than ten million (Euros).”
The equivalent fee of £8.5m would see Hellas return a profit on the former Fulham man, who bagged four goals in 13 appearances last season after his move. The same report suggests that the Verona side could rake in over £20m combined for Bowie and Belghali. This would in turn give them the resources to mount a serious title challenge next season.
Hellas President targets instant promotion
It was a disappointing campaign for Hellas Verona last season as they finished 19th in the league, 17 points adrift of safety. The Yellow and Blues only managed three league wins - one of which came after Bowie’s arrival. The Scotland international did however manage to get on the scoresheet in draws against Italian giants Inter Milan and Juventus.
President Puscasiu made it clear on the day their relegation fate was decided in May that instant promotion is the aim. He said: "The immediate priority is clear: we will approach Serie B with a single goal, to return to Serie A as soon as possible, starting next season. We have the resources to pursue this goal seriously. I hope that, together with the sporting department, we can build one of the strongest teams in the league."
The club have already sold defender Armel Bella-Kotchap to Venezia and forward Mathis Lombarde to Servette, as they try to free up resources to fund their title charge. Whether Bowie will follow suit remains to be seen, but with his ever-increasing price tag, they may have their hand forced later in the transfer window.
