Italian Serie A side Sassuolo have submitted a €6 million proposal to Sheffield United for Nigeria-eligible fullback Femi Seriki, according to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano.
Romano revealed that Sassuolo have presented an offer worth €1 million (approximately N1.6 billion in Nigerian currency) upfront with a further €5 million (N8 billion) obligation to buy included in the proposal as they look to secure the services of the highly-rated defender.
The 24-year-old right-back is reportedly high on Sassuolo’s transfer list as the Italian club continue their search for defensive reinforcements ahead of the new season.
Seriki has developed into an important figure at Sheffield United after progressing through the club’s system.
Born in Manchester, England, the defender has Nigerian roots through his family background, making him eligible to represent the Super Eagles at international level.
The fullback joined Sheffield United’s academy after starting his youth career at Bury and has gained valuable experience through loan spells, including stints with Beerschot, Boston United, Rochdale and Rotherham United before establishing himself at Bramall Lane.
Known for his pace, attacking ability and versatility on the right side of defence, Seriki’s performances have attracted attention from clubs outside England, with Sassuolo now pushing to take him to Italy.
Sheffield United have previously shown their faith in the defender by extending his contract, with the club tying him down to a deal that runs until 2027.
The proposed move could provide Seriki with an opportunity to continue his development in Serie A while also bringing him closer to a potential future international decision involving Nigeria.
