Tarik Muharemovic joined Leeds United some weeks ago after a host of Italian clubs attempted to sign him. Sport Witness closely covered how Inter Milan and Juventus were in the hunt for his signature. The centre-back was one of Bosnia’s most important players at the World Cup and was vital in their qualification for the competition. He emerged as one of the best Serie A defenders last season in his first full campaign in the top-flight. While the move is a boost for Leeds United, Sassuolo have no regret about his sale. Director proud of sale Sassuolo’s new sporting director Francesco Palmieri spoke to Tuttomercatoweb about the club’s plans for the summer. Sales were a key talking point and the Italian was glad about Muharemovic’s move to Leeds United. “Kieron Bowie has arrived, but he still has to sign. Muharemovic left, there was a great opportunity for the boy, and then we had a very talented player who suffered a serious injury, [Ismael] Koné, which penalised the club and the boy in particular.” Further, Palmieri clarified the club’s identity, thanking the ownership for their approach, which helps them stay afloat in Serie A. “We know we’ll have to approach Serie A, which will be extremely difficult, with great determination and a desire to do well, because this club has always strived to do well. We’re fortunate to have the Squinzi family, and we should be honoured because they’ve always provided great support.” He’s proud of how Sassuolo constantly make quality sales like that of Muharemovic. “This club has been a springboard for many, and it means a certain level of work has been done. We’ll continue on this path, knowing we have many strong players.” Our take: Whites should be glad about deal Sassuolo are a typical selling club in Serie A and more often than not, their players do well elsewhere. Davide Frattesi and Manuel Locatelli are great examples of that. Muharemovic should go down as quite a good signing. Even if he has played just one season at the highest level, his abilities have become very clear. The fact that Juve and Inter were keen is evidence of that. His towering frame and recovery abilities make him a rare asset. The 23-year-old has an excellent ability on the ball and can play in a back three and a back four.
