Sheffield United prepared for transfer market 'chaos' as Chris Wilder answers Anel Ahmedhodžić question Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has laid out the club’s transfer market stance Sheffield United are preparing to get involved in transfer market “chaos” as the summer transfer window deadlines approaches. With less than three weeks of the window remaining, Sheffield United have gaps in their squad that require plugging. Most notably, there is a hole in midfield following Gustavo Hamer’s move back to his former club Coventry City. Chris Wilder outlines Sheffield United transfer stance After his side’s goalless draw with Birmingham City, Blades manager Wilder said: “We're a club that last season, was in the last year of parachute payments, which I've talked about is a reward for three years in the Premier League and a profit as a football club. “Some people have got deep pockets in this division and we understand that. Our owners want to do it in a way that suits the football club. “There's no opportunity to go and buy somebody to replace Gus, as we've talked about, in that position. And if you are, it's going to cost you a chunk of change. “So we're going to have to be involved in the chaos, which is the last 10 days. Everybody turns from permanent signings. Is he available on loan? ‘No, it's a permanent, it's a permanent, it's a permanent’. That's all we get. That's all the response that we get. “And then going into the last week of the chaos, where all players will be coming up, left, right and centre. We know we need to replace Gus. “And yet again, we'll be working 24/7, which we have been through this period, to give the team the best opportunity of being competitive in, which is, for me, one of the most competitive divisions that there’s been for a long, long time.” Anel Ahmedhodžić link Sheffield United have been linked with former Blades defender Anel Ahmedhodžić, who made 114 appearances for the South Yorkshire club between 2022 and 2025. When asked about reported interest in the Feyenoord centre-back, Wilder said: “Well, he's a centre-half, apparently he’s available, he's got history with the football club. “We're not just eyeing one player up. That's a dangerous game to play. So there's options out there, loan market and small fees, as we understand. “We keep working on it and see what rocks up, but it's an area of the pitch that we need to strengthen if we're going to be competitive this year.”
