Manchester United’s weakest performance of pre-season ironically ended up coming against Ruben Amorim’s AC Milan on Saturday. The team was expected to be fired up for the game at the Tarczyński Arena, but ring rustiness of certain players coupled with INEOS’ inability to back Michael Carrick in the transfer market led to the Red Devils succumbing to a 2-4 defeat. The Portuguese’s reign has been widely criticised, with the former Sporting CP manager not only failed to improve the team’s fortunes on the pitch, but also alienated several of the club’s established stars. His treatment of Kobbie Mainoo was among the most puzzling, with the academy graduate even coming close to leaving his boyhood club at one point. Mainoo, Rashford struggled under Amorim Marcus Rashford did end up leaving, only two months after Amorim was appointed, with the then-head coach exiling him from the team due to his poor work ethic. Both came on as second-half substitutes, but they could not rescue their club from losing their final friendly of the summer. Naturally, cameras were pointed at Amorim after the game to observe how many of his former players reached out to him. As reported by The Manchester Evening News, Bruno Fernandes was the first to greet his compatriot, swiftly followed by Noussair Mazraoui. Dalot’s inclusion is likely just because he wanted to thank the fans, while the presence of the Carrington duo made sense. All three might have met Amorim later, but that is still not clear.
