Meanwhile, Gillian Robertson (17-9 MMA) will enter her first career UFC title fight sporting a five-fight winning streak. ‘The Savage‘ was most previously seen in action this past March, where she scored a unanimous decision win over Amanda Lemos. Prior to that triumph, the Canadian standout was coming off a second-round TKO victory over Marina Rodriguez. She locks in a rear-naked choke. Gillian Anderson is able to sneak out and winds up taking top position. That was huge for the challenger. Mackenzie Dern rolls for a leg lock. She’s trying to secure a knee. 90 seconds remain in the round. Dern is in control again on the canvas. She elbows the thigh of ‘The Savage’. Robertson is being outclassed so far. She shoots in for a takedown and is able to get it against the cage. Dern immediately moves to half guard position. The champ transitions to the challengers back and locks in a body triangle. She moves for a rear-naked choke. Robertson defends the choke, but Dern is still smothering her. Some short punches from the champ. The Canadian scores a sweep, but Dern threatens with an armbar. Some good lates shots from Robertson. We head to round five. The fifth and final round begins and Mackenzie Dern comes out throwing. She lands a combination. Gillian Robertson forces the clinch and pushes the champ against the cage. She dives on a takedown attempt and gets it. Dern immediately looks for an armbar submission. Robertson escapes the threat and continues to work from top position. Dern is doing a great job of preventing any offense from the challenger. ‘The Savage’ finally gets off some punches and an elbow.
