Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin has hit out at refereeing decisions he believes had a major impact on his side against Celtic after the Hoops ran out 4-0 winners. That decision angered Goodwin in particular, with the Irishman making clear after the match that he believed it was handball and that Durán’s first competitive goal should not have stood. He said: (The Courier), “The second goal, with the timing and the nature of it, is extremely frustrating. “I know people will say it was an accidental handball but I think common sense needs to prevail in a situation like that. Had the ball not hit the Celtic player’s hand then it wouldn’t have dropped to the feet of his team-mate.“ Goodwin also spoke about the decision not to award Dundee United a penalty after appeals for the ball striking Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Despite the ball appearing to hit the English midfielder high up around the shoulder area, Goodwin was frustrated by the call and also spoke about his side receiving no favours from VAR. He said: “I think everybody can see that the Celtic player does raise his arm towards the ball. For me it’s another decision that could go in your favour, but VAR obviously didn’t think it was worth looking at. “Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don’t. “Tonight certainly we got no favours from VAR.” The Hoops, meanwhile, were well worth the victory and look to be hitting form ahead of LASK on Wednesday. They created chances regularly and, most importantly, were clinical when opportunities came their way. Dundee United exit the cup while Celtic move into the next round with confidence growing at Parkhead. Goodwin’s frustration with the officials was clear, but Celtic’s performance ensured the scoreline left little doubt over who deserved to progress.
