Werder Bremen coach Daniel Thioune has provided a positive update on Felix Agu’s fitness, revealing that the Super Eagles defender has returned to training ahead of the club’s upcoming friendly clash against VfL Bochum. Agu has endured a difficult period with injuries over the past season, limiting his involvement for the Bundesliga side. However, Thioune believes the left-back could make his return to action this weekend after carefully managing his workload. The Werder Bremen coach explained that Agu has gradually increased his training intensity after his recent setback and remains hopeful of including him in the squad against Bochum. “I expect that I will be able to use him on Saturday against VfL Bochum,” Thioune said, as quoted by DeichStube. Discussing Agu’s progress, the coach added: “Felix's workload has been managed so far, but he has returned to training.” Agu’s possible comeback represents a major boost for Werder Bremen after the defender missed significant parts of the 2025-26 campaign because of injury problems. The 26-year-old suffered a syndesmosis ligament injury during Werder Bremen’s Bundesliga meeting with FC St. Pauli in October 2025, an issue that required a lengthy recovery period and ruled him out for several months. The setback also affected his chances of featuring for Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. After finally returning from that ankle-related problem, Agu suffered another setback when he picked up an adductor muscle injury. The fresh injury came shortly after his comeback and forced him back onto the sidelines. The repeated absences disrupted Agu’s rhythm during the 2025-26 season, with the defender unable to build consistent momentum despite being an important option in Werder Bremen’s squad. His defensive ability, pace and versatility had made him a valuable player for the club before injuries interrupted his campaign.
