Konyaspor on brink of deal for Super Eagles centre-back after Nantes' relegation

Super Eagles central defender Chidozie Awaziem is reportedly on the verge of completing a permanent move to Turkish Super Lig side Konyaspor during the current summer transfer window. Awaziem joined French club Nantes last summer and enjoyed a solid individual campaign despite the club's disappointing season. The Nigerian international made 26 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring one goal and providing two assists while delivering a series of composed performances in defence. Despite his contributions, Nantes were unable to avoid relegation to Ligue 2, bringing an end to their stay in the French top flight and casting uncertainty over the futures of several first-team players. According to L'Équipe, Konyaspor are now in advanced negotiations to secure the services of the 29-year-old centre-back ahead of the 2026/2027 campaign. The Turkish club reportedly view Awaziem as an experienced addition capable of strengthening their defensive unit as they look to improve on last season's ninth-place finish in the Super Lig. With Nantes preparing for life in the second tier, Awaziem is not expected to remain at the club and is reportedly set to continue his career in Türkiye. The report adds that the Super Eagles defender is expected to sign a two-year contract with Konyaspor, with the transfer fee believed to be in the region of €1 million. If the move is completed, Awaziem will return to familiar surroundings in Turkish football, where he will be aiming to bring his experience and leadership to Konyaspor's backline. As the summer transfer window continues, the Nigerian international will be keen to finalise his future and build on the consistent performances he delivered last season while helping Konyaspor compete for a stronger finish in the 2026/2027 campaign.
