And as Dominic Solanke and Richarlison cannot be relied upon for regular supply of goals due to their fitness and consistency issues, the signing of a striker has become a necessity. Now, reliable journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed a new name on the North London club’s radar. He has told the Tottenham fans to keep an eye on Freiburg marksman Igor Matanovic, who has an “interesting profile”. “I heard Igor Matanovic the other day at Freiburg, who has had a good year or so of goalscoring and is quite a young and interesting profile,” Ben Jacobs said on the Last Word on Spurs podcast. “He’s basically like a basketball player. I think he’s about six foot five, and he’s done very well since joining Freiburg. He’s been capped for Croatia. “I think it was about 15 goals in all competitions last season. Not necessarily the finished product, but one name to keep an eye on.” Igor Matanovic on Tottenham’s radar Matanovic made the move to Freiburg from Eintracht Frankfurt in July 2025. He enjoyed a solid debut season with Freiburg, netting 15 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions. Standing at 6ft 5ins tall, the 12-cap Croatian international is excellent at hold-up play and bringing his fellow attackers in the game. The 23-year-old is a real handful for defenders, often positioning himself well in the box to win headers and score goals. With his towering frame and physicality, the Freiburg man could provide a different dimension to Tottenham’s attack. With De Zerbi having some good crossers of the ball in the form of Mohammed Kudus, James Maddison, Pedro Porro and Sandro Tonali, Matanovic would flourish and add goals to the Spurs side. At 23, the Croat is still relatively young and would enhance the team’s offensive unit. That said, Tottenham must try to test Freiburg’s resolve for the big striker.
