Aston Villa are intensifying talks for Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, but multiple sources warn Juventus are by no means sure Emiliano Martinez will be their first target now, with others on the table.
The entire situation was turned on its head this afternoon when Paris Saint-Germain were about to exchange documents with Parma for Suzuki at €30m plus €5m add-ons.
French reports suggest his agents demanded up to an extra €5m in commission, which infuriated the Champions League holders, and they walked away.
Suzuki to Aston Villa, so Martinez for Juventus?
Immediately, Aston Villa went back in for Suzuki by offering similar terms to the ones Parma had already accepted.
In theory, this would release Martinez for Juventus, but Sky Sport Italia and Fabrizio Romano both warn this is not to be taken for granted.
This is both because of the €10m asking price, but also concerns about the finger injury that Martinez suffered in the warm-up to the Europa League Final, and which continued to affect him throughout the World Cup with Argentina.
Considering all of that, Juventus are still keeping other alternatives on ice, including Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, Ederson of Fenerbahce and Benfica’s Ukraine international Anatoliy Trubin.
