Crystal Palace have identified OGC Nice’s Antoine Mendy as a new target as part of their plans to improve their defence.
The Premier League side have three recognised centre-backs, after selling Marc Guéhi and Maxence Lacroix this summer.
Crystal Palace have already identified a few targets like Fenerbahçe’s Jayden Oosterwolde and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Arthur Theate.
Two days ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Turkey that Oosterwolde has his heart set on the England move.
Crystal Palace face Italy competition for Mendy
Foot Mercato covers the UEFA Conference League winners’ interest in Antoine Mendy, who can also operate as a right-back.
The 22-year-old has already established himself at the Ligue 1 side, playing 91 matches. His performances and versatility have seen him attract interest.
Nice will have to raise funds and are open to selling the defender for at least €15m. He’s not short of options as several England and Italian clubs are in the running to sign him.
Fiorentina and Udinese have closely monitored Antoine Mendy, and the Serie A duo have also made contact. These two clubs have to be wary of Crystal Palace’s competition. In short, the ‘bidding war is on’ this summer.
Mendy convinces Crystal Palace
Foot Mercato warns the Italian clubs that the ‘most pressing’ interest comes from England where the Eagles are keen.
Crystal Palace appreciate the France-born Senegal international’s profile. His potential has convinced their leaders, as there’s significant room for improvement.
The London club also believe Antoine Mendy has all the physical attributes needed to shine in the Premier League.
Pierre Sage’s side have the ‘means to make a move’, likely to beat competition from Italy.
The Selhurst Park club’s interest in the Senegalese is a positive for Nice, who are ready to start negotiations for €15m. They have the financial means, and it remains to be seen whether Crystal Palace will make further advances.
