Leeds United reach agreement in principle on Nico Elvedi transfer Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi has emerged as a transfer target for Leeds United Leeds United have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi on a permanent transfer. The Whites have been linked with a move for the 29-year-old centre-back in recent days, and now it seems that a move is close to being completed. Daniel Farke is currently preparing his squad for their second season in the Premier League following their promotion in 2025, and looks set to add an experienced player to his squad. As reported by The Athletic, Leeds have agreed a permanent deal to sign Elvedi from Monchengladbach for a fee believed to be worth up to €10million (£8.6million). Elvedi’s contract with the Bundesliga outfit was set to expire at the end of the forthcoming season, and Leeds have swooped in to agree a deal to bring the central defender to Elland Road ahead of the new Premier League campaign Elvedi signed for Monchengladbach back in 2015 from FC Zurich and has gone on to make 364 appearances across all competitions for the German outfit, including 36 last season. The Switzerland international will now be expected to become a Leeds player in due course, having recently featured for his country at the World Cup in North America this summer. The report claims that Leeds are looking to finalise a deal for Elvedi, with Sebastiaan Bornauw's future at Elland Road becoming increasingly uncertain. FOLLOW OUR LUFC FACEBOOK PAGE! Latest news, analysis and more on our Leeds United FB page It has been reported that Bornauw could complete a move to Hamburg, although it remains to be seen if this would be on a loan deal or a permanent basis. Elvedi played under Farke during his time with Monchengladbach and the pair could reunite if a transfer for the defender gets completed before the September 1 deadline. Leeds have been busy strengthening their squad this summer, with Harry Wilson, James Trafford and Tarik Muharemovic all moving to Elland Road, and it remains to be seen if Elvedi will become the fourth new signing of the window. Farke and Co. will begin their Premier League campaign with an away trip to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest on August 22, before hosting Brentford at Elland Road just over a week later (August 30) in their home opener.
