Chelsea are now in negotiations to send Kendry Páez to Trabzonspor, with the Turkish club moving from a possible destination to the clear frontrunner for the Ecuadorian.
That is according to Argentina’s TyC Sports, who report on Friday that Páez is “close to being loaned” to Trabzonspor. That means the 19-year-old could soon find himself sharing a dressing room with former Chelsea player – and Liverpool star – Mohamed Salah.
Chelsea negotiations now underway
Kendry Páez had already been linked with Trabzonspor towards the end of July, when Chelsea were searching for his next loan destination.
Now TyC Sports say Chelsea “maintain negotiations” with Trabzonspor over a loan. And it could soon seal the youngster’s move to Turkey.
An agreement has not yet been completed, so there is still work to be done. However, the wording from Argentina makes this considerably more concrete than the initial interest reported a couple of weeks ago.
Trabzonspor would certainly offer Páez an interesting environment.
The Turkish side have just completed the signing of Salah after his seven-year spell at Liverpool. So should Chelsea complete the Páez deal, their youngster would suddenly have one of the Premier League’s greatest players of recent years alongside him.
River already preparing for exit
There is now no doubt over Kendry Páez leaving River Plate. His loan was supposed to run until December, but the Argentine club and Chelsea are working towards ending it early.
River have already left him off all of their matches since the World Cup break. TyC Sports confirmed that his time at the club is over, as we already covered.
Trabzonspor started out as one of several possible solutions for Chelsea. A couple of weeks later, the Blues are negotiating the loan. Páez is said to be close to making the move.
If those talks reach a successful conclusion, Turkey – and a rather eye-catching new teammate in Salah – will provide the next opportunity for Páez to get his career moving again.
