Final touches made to plans for Huddersfield Premier Inn revamp A Huddersfield Premier Inn has submitted its final tweaks for plans to build more hotel rooms, a breakfast room, and a new car park. Visitors to Huddersfield Town Centre will be pleased to know that the plans to revamp the Premier Inn on St Andrew’s Road are well underway. The three-star hotel, which sits on the Huddersfield Broad Canal, was already granted permission to demolish its restaurant to make way for more rooms, a new dining area, and a better car park back in 2024. However, before these plans can proceed, Premier Inn’s developers need to fulfil specific conditions, including submitting detailed plans for the green space, tree protection, boundary treatments, and the paving layout around the new extension and car park. This is particularly important as the developers received initial pushback in 2024 from the Canal & River Trust, over fears the build – and the car park in particular – would “diminish the potential for the public to access the canal” and could “harm the ability of the Trust to maintain and manage (their) assets”. Though the plan was eventually approved, the developers had to follow strict conditions, with the latest plans submitted to the council for inspection. These include specific plans for materials for paths, patios, retaining walls, and paving around the extension of the new car park site. If signed off, the hotel’s developers will be one step closer to expanding the premises. ENDS
