The 19-year-old is well thought of at the Accu Stadium and was recently tied down to a new contract running until 2029. Sway, who can operate in midfield or at right-back, has made six senior appearances for the Terriers and ended last season on loan at Hartlepool United. Posting on X, he said: “Huddersfield defender Jay Smith-Sway is a loan target for Rochdale and Oldham.” A temporary spell in League Two could prove to be invaluable for Sway, particularly if he is not set to play a prominent role for his parent club in League One. However, Terriers head coach Martin Drury is keen to blood youth and may be tempted to keep the utility man in his ranks. Jay Sway profile When Sway penned a loan deal at Hartlepool, the non-league club’s then-boss Nicky Featherstone said: “He’s still very young, but you can see straight away the qualities he has. He’s comfortable on the ball, he understands the game and he’s got the kind of energy and attitude we want in the squad. “He’s a highly-regarded young player at Huddersfield and someone they see as one for the future, so bringing him in at this stage is a big positive for us.” Huddersfield are due to kick off their League One campaign at home against AFC Wimbledon on August 15. However, they will be back in competitive action as soon as this weekend with a Carabao Cup clash with Preston North End in the calendar.
